KARACHI: CAA conducts training exercise at airport
KARACHI, April 2: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday carried out an exercise at the Jinnah International Airport to train its men in meeting an emergency situation during a crash landing.
This exercise was participated by departments concerned of the CAA, besides doctors and paramedical staff of different city hospitals.
During the training exercise, a PIA Boeing with 200 passengers on made a mock crash landing during which it caught fire. The fire was caused symbolically a little distance away from the aircraft. It was put out by the fire fighters of the CAA and other organizations in a swift move.
The passengers were swiftly evacuated through emergency shoots with the cooperation of the aircraft crew. The doctors of the CAA and other hospitals examined the affected passengers wearing makeup to make them look injured.
The paramedical staff categorised those killed and injured and tagged them. The seriously injured were rushed to various hospitals.
The mock crash landing exercise was supervised by the chief of operation CAA, Fareed Amjad, and officials of different airlines.
The spectators were generally of the opinion that overall the persons participating in the exercise performed their parts responsibly.
According to CAA authorities, this training exercise is carried out every two years. Its basic objectives to make the liaison between organizations working at the airport more effective and also to overcome their deficiencies.—APP
