LAHORE, March 30: Heavily backed favourite bay colt, The Conqueror  avenged  his Pakistan Derby defeat when he crowned a narrow  success  over  Derby Winner bay filly  Democracy  in  the Eclipse Stakes Of Pakistan run over 2000 metres at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Four-year-old  colt, The  Conqueror’s,  reputation  was dented  after a defeat by neck from Democracy in the  big  event on  March  16 last.

He duly compensated his  owner  Syed  Tasweer Hussain Shah by reversing the race order in the feature and sixth event during the Lahore Winter Meeting on Sunday before a sizable gathering.

The colt beat Democracy by half-a-length. Bay Jet Master finished third, one-and-a-half lengths further behind while  Red  Storm  completed the  frame,  another  one-and-a-half lengths  back. In all, ten ran for the event in which the  winner clocked two minutes 9 2/5 seconds over the distance.

Jockey  Shahid  Rehman superbly partnered The  Conqueror  and warded of the last 100 metres challenge from Democracy.

Three-year-old bay colt Blue’s Traveller, who strode to  grab the  Shalimar Cup run over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres in  the second race was the best performer of the day.

The  colt was ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman. Running abreast of the  small field the winner beat Saqi by two-and-a-half lengths. Naseeb  and Muqaddar completed the frame among only four runners.

Dark fluke bay colt Dancing Star sprang big surprise when he

lifted the Mohy-ud-Din Muhammad Auragzeb Alamgir Cup run over 1600 metres. He beat fancied Rukhtas Again by about two  lengths. Asif Love and Shama made up the board among six runners.

Jockey  Shahid Rehman shared the day’s honours  with  trainer Haji  Fazal  Hadi  by bringing a treble each.  Shahid  rode  home Blue’s  Traveller in the second race, The Conqueror in the  sixth race  and Canwara in the seventh and last race. Haji  Fazal  Hadi sent  out  Flame  in the opener, Royal Falcon in  the  fifth  and Canwara in the seventh race.
