Request made for return of ex-CM’s daughters

LAHORE, March 30: A Sharif family spokesman Farrukh Shah confirmed on Sunday that an application had been sent to President Pervez Musharraf that two daughters of former Punjab chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif should be allowed to return to Pakistan to get married.

The application has been sent by Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s father-in-law Mian Meraj.

However, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid expressed his ignorance about any such application. “I’ll be in a position to say anything on the subject on Monday,” he said after being approached by phone.

It is said that permission has also been sought for the return of Mrs Shahbaz Sharif.

The wife and daughters of Mian Shahbaz Sharif are in the United States at present. However, his son, Hamza, who had joined them in the US recently, has gone to Saudi Arabia.

Mian Abbas Sharif’s family, which arrived in Pakistan to attend some family marriages a few weeks ago, is still here and has no plans to go back to Saudi Arabia.—Staff Reporter
