KARACHI, March 28: The Customs Preventive Collectorate foiled an attempt of gold smuggling and recovered gold bars worth Rs15 million.

The Customs staff made the seizure on a credible information that a syndicate of gold smugglers would attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of gold into the country by air.

Pursuant to the information, a team was constituted under the supervision of assistant collector airport.

The team mounted strict surveillance and ultimately succeeded in recovering 2,400 tolas of gold cleverly concealed in the AFT cabin of an Airbus that had earlier arrived from Dubai.

The concealment was of such a technical nature that it was impossible to detect the same without active help, expertise and cooperation of PIA engineering staff.

An FIR has been lodged and further investigation is under way.—APP
