PESHAWAR, March 24: Peshawar University Teachers Association has demanded that the Task Force for Higher Education should look into the Model University Ordinance and teachers’ representatives should be included in the panel.

A press statement issued by the association here on Monday said teachers all over Pakistan had rejected the proposed ordinance.

“Teachers have shown their resentment by holding protest rallies for almost one year,” it said.

PUTA is going to hold a peaceful protest demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s house on Wednesday to show their disapproval of the ordinance, Dr Nasir Jamal said, according to the release.

The association has demanded of the NWFP government to consider their suggestions and include their representatives in the task force it has formed to improve education.

The proposed ordinance should be discussed in the assemblies and the proposed document be promulgated only as an Act and not as an Ordinance, said the press release.

PUTA demanded that the task force should analyze the ordinance and then make its recommendations in the greater interest of the institutions of higher education.
