QUETTA, March 23: A protest demonstration was held in Pashtoonabad on Sunday by a social welfare organization, Khidmat-i-Khalq, against the United States attack on Iraq.
The protesters, led by the organization’s president, Mohammad Naeem Khalji, were carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-US and anti-war slogans. They marched on city roads and burnt an effigy of President George Bush at Metha Chowk.
The speakers termed the attack on Iraq a violation of international law and against humanity. They said the US and British forces had dropped thousands of bombs and missiles on Baghdad and other cities killing and injuring hundreds of innocent citizens, but Iraqi people and forces were fighting with courage.
They criticized the role of the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference.
They demanded that the government should announce full support to Iraq. They urged the Muslim world, especially the Arab countries, to united against the US and support Iraq in the war.
