ISLAMABAD, March 13: The villagers of Sri Saral and Pind Sangrial have demanded extra compensation for giving the land to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the director lands of the CDA, Sultan Sikandar Raja, told Dawn on Thursday. However, the official said there were no such rules to provide double benefit to the villagers.

Under double benefit demand, the villagers have demanded some 128 more plots in sector D-12 in compensation, the official said.

Mr Sikandar said the CDA administration was considering the demand of double benefit and finding out ways to settle the issue of sector D-12 development.

The plan is stated to be in doldrums after a clash took place between the villagers and officials of law-enforcement agencies on July 28, 2002 in which two villagers had died.

The official hoped that the development work on the sector would be resumed very soon.

To a question in the National Assembly, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat had said the work was expected to start in a month subject to the successful negotiations of the CDA with the villagers. He had said the development work was scheduled to be completed within three years.

Those who were allotted plots in the sector would have to pay additional development charges and thus no concession would be given to them as delay in execution had been beyond the control of the CDA, the minister had said.

The development of the sector D-12 is being executed jointly by the CDA and Pakistan Housing Foundation (PHF). The CDA has allocated an amount of Rs106 million for the development of the new sector.
