Lahore retain trophy

LAHORE, March 5: Lahore accumulated 1520 points to retain the 69th Punjab Games trophy, while Faisalabad with 864 points finished as runners-up.

Rawalpindi with 370 points settled at third place.

Lahore district sports officer Athar Saeed Butt received the trophy from chief guest Punjab sports minister Naeemullah Khan Shahani.

The organisers cancelled the colourful programme chalked out for the closing ceremony due to Ashura.

ATHLETICS:

Lahore mustered 170 points to won the athletics championship at the Railways Stadium. On the concluding day three finals of women and six of men’s were held.

Results:

Women:

800m: Mehwish (Rawalpindi) 2 min 44.1 sec; Misbah (Faisalabad), Safia Dar (Gujranwala).

4x100m relay: Rabia, Maryam, Uzma, Imrana (Lahore) 56.00sec. Lahore, Gujranwala.

Hop step jump: Rabia Akram (Faisalabad), Saira (Gujranwala), Nadia (Lahore).

Men:

Hammer throw: Israr Ahmad (Lahore), 47.43 metres, Rashid Naveed, Mumtaz Watoo (Lahore).

1500metre: Ashraf (Lahore) 4min 8.5 sec, Nawaz (Faisalabad), Mazhar (Lahore).

200metre: Rauf (Lahore) 22.95 sec, Talha (Lahore), Ejaz Hussain (Faisalabad).

100metre: Ejaz (Faisalabad) 11.29 sec, Jameel (Lahore), Rauf (Lahore).

Hop Step and Jump: Irfan Ali (Sargodha), Asif Naeem (Gujranwala), Arif Mehmood (Rawalpindi).

4x100m relay: Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Faisalabad.

HOCKEY:

A golden goal by Akhtar helped Sargodha win the hockey championship final, beating Toba Tek Singh 3-2 at the National Hockey Stadium.

Both the teams were locked at 2-2 after the regulation time. Akhtar converted a penalty stroke in the 8th minute of extra time to score the winner.

Waheed Islam (18th minute) and Aamir Saleem (48th minute) were the scorers from the winning side, while former Olympian Mohammad Usman scored both the goals for Toba Tek Singh in the in the 38th and 59th minutes.

Earlier, Faisalabad got the third position beating Lahore 5-4 on penalty strokes after the game ended with both sides goalless.

FOOTBALL:

A hat trick by Waqas helped Lahore beat Faisalabad 3-1 and to win the football championship at the Punjab Stadium.

Waqas scored in the 4th, 63rd, and 70th minutes. For the losers the solitary goal was scored by Sajid in the 86th minute.

Ghafran netted the 28th-minute winner to help Muzaffargarh secure the third position, defeating Sargodha 1-0.

VOLLEYBALL:

Rawalpindi defeated Sialkot 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 to win the volleyball championship at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex.

Sahiwal got the third position, beating Faisalabad 25-20, 25-14.

HANDBALL:

Faisalabad won the handball championship, outplaying Dera Ghazi Khan 21-12 at the Government Physical Education College.

For Faisalabad, Mohammad Javed scored nine goals and Mohammad Sohail added five goals. Fayyaz Hussain and Mohammad Imran scored five and two goals respectively for the losers.

Sargodha got the third position.

WEIGHTLIFTING:

Lahore secured with 44 points to win the weightlifting championship at the Punjab University Old Campus.

Sialkot, with 29 points, became the runners-up position, Gujranwala finished third with 21 points.

BOXING:

Lahore grabbed four gold medals to clinch the boxing championship title at the National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC).

51kgs: Ijaz Ahmad (Lahore) bt Mohammad Khan (Faisalabad) on points.

54kgs: Tariq Amin (Lahore) bt Irfan Masih (Sargodha) RSC.

57kgs: Arab Gull (Lahore) bt Fakhar Abbas (Sargodha) on points.

60kgs: Rashid Ali (Faisalabad) bt Sajid Ali (Gujranwala).

64kgs: Habib-ul-Rahman (Lahore) bt Ilyas Masih (Sargodha).

69kgs: Abdul Ghaffar (Lahore) bt Tasawur Abbas (Sargodha).

75kgs: Wajid Zahoor (Lahore) bt Yousuf Butt (Faisalabad).

81kgs: Ahmad Farooq (Rawalpindi) bt Mohammad Muzammil (Gujranwala) on points.

91kgs: Yaqoob Butt (Gujranwala) bt Nadeem Hussain Shah (Sargodha).

Above 91 kgs: Qamar-ul-Islam (Faisalabad) w/o Rao Jani (Bahawalpur).

BODYBUILDING:

Lahore scored 41 points to win the bodybuilding championship while Multan got the second position with 30 points.

Umair Akram of Lahore, was declared Mr. Punjab after winning the class 75kgs contest.

65kgs: Nasir Hussain Butt (Sialkot), Aamir Khan (Lahore), Kashif Ali (Faisalabad).

70kgs: Ali Imran (Multan), Ahmad Raza (Lahore), Zafar Iqbal (Multan).

75kgs: Mohammad Qaiser Butt (Sialkot), Jameel Ahmad Qureshi (Rawalpindi), Asad (Lahore).

Above 75kgs: Umair Akram (Lahore), Zubair Butt (Lahore), Ahmad Raza Naqvi (Lahore).

SQUASH:

Lahore won the boys and girls squash championship titles at the Punjab Squash Complex.

Ijaz Ahmad bt Asghar Khan 15-9, 15-10, 15-8; Mohammad Ilyas bt Farooq Ahmad 15-9, 15-8, 15-11.

Girls:

Lahore bt Faisalabad 2-0 (Amna Najam bt Misbah Rani 3-0; Muqaddas Ashraf bt Gul Zaman 3-0).

WRESTLING:

Lahore lifted the wrestling championship title with 51 points at the NSTCC.

Gujranwala secured 47 points and Faisalabad 33 to get the second and third positions.

KABADDI:

Faisalabad defeated Toba Tek Singh 58-42 to win the kabaddi championship at the Atiq Stadium.

Rahimyar Khan got the third position, beating Sahiwal 31-26.

BADMINTON:

Gujranwala and Lahore won the men and women’s titles in the team events of the badminton championship at the A.G office Hall.

Gujranwala bt Lahore 2-0: (Mohammad Owais bt Umer Rabbani 15-12, 15-12; Owais and Nadeem (Gujranwala) bt Naveed Javed and Umer Rabbani 17-15, 15-9).

Lahore bt Faisalabad 2-1: (Aneeq Rana (Faisalabad) bt Shagufta (Lahore) 11-6, 11-5; Hina Mehmood and Razia Parveen (Lahore) bt Aneeq Rana and Talaat (Faisalabad) 15-7, 15-9; Razia (Lahore) bt Talaat (Faisalabad) 11-2, 11-0.

Men singles:

Syed Bilal (Lahore) bt Umer Rabbani (Lahore) 15-12, 15-12.

Men doubles: Naveed Javed-Syed Bilal (Lahore) bt Faizan and Tahir (Layyah) 15-1, 15-3.

Women singles:

Aneeq Rana (Faisalabad) bt Saleem Razzaq (KHanewal) 11-10, 11-3.

Women doubles:

Saleem and Aneeq Rana (Khanewal) bt Razia and Hina Mahmood (Lahore) 15-7, 15-9.

TAEKWONDO:

Lahore with 50 points won the taekwondo championship at Awan Hall Multan Road. Multan (29) and Bahawalpur (27) got the second and third positions.

Finweight: Tayyab Raza (Lahore), Mohammad Fayyaz (Multan), Mohammad Javed (Bahawalpur).

Flyweight: Sabir Ahmed (Lahore), Arslan Bokhari (Multan), Imtiaz (Sheikhupura).

Bantamweight: Khurram Sultan (Lahore), Tariq Javed (Bahawalpur), Mohammad Qasim (Gujranwala).

Featherweight: Imran Bhatti (Multan), Mohammad Iqbal (Lahore), Imran Yasin (Bahawalnagar).

Lightweight: Imran Ali (Bahawalpur), Ghulam Rasool (Lahore), Mohammad Asif.

Welterweight: Kamran Hussain (Multan), Wasim Shahzad (Sheikhupura), Asghar Saqi (Lahore).

Middleweight: Nadeem (Bahawalpur), Amir Sohail (Lahore).

Heavyweight: Nasim Malik (Lahore).

TABLE TENNIS:

Kashif Razak of Lahore and Rizwana Salim of Rawalpindi won the men’s and women’s titles in the table tennis championship at the NSTCC.

Kashif beat Arshad Taskin (Rahimyar Khan) 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, while Rizwana beat Asma Najib (Faisalabad) 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

CYCLING:

According to incomplete results released by the Lahore Cycling Association, Lahore with 132 points won the cycling championship at the National Velodrome. Lahore secured 51 points in the men’s event and 81 points in the women’s category. Rawalpindi with 66 points secured the second spot in men’s event and Rahimyar Khan earned the third place with 39 points.

JUDO:

As per incomplete results from Lahore Judo Association, Faisalabad with 61 points won the judo championship at the Government Physical Education College.

Lahore bagged 27 points to earn the second spot. Gujranwala earned the third position with 20 points.
