Five die in separate road accidents

RAWALPINDI, March 5: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents, while two others, who were hit by vehicles on Sunday, died on Wednesday, police said.

In the first incident, a wagon driver was killed and 15 others, including six policemen, were injured after their vehicle hit a college gate on Peshawar Road near Tarnol.

The police said a wagon (MIA-9275) was heading for Mianwali when it crashed into the gate of EME College, Peshawar Road, killing the driver, Khurshid, on the spot and injuring 15 others.

The injured, two of whom are said to be in critical condition, were shifted to different hospitals. Among the injured are six policemen.

In another incident, Mohammad Khan, son of Hazir Khan, died after being hit by a car on Peshawar Road, Westridge.

Mr Khan was critically injured in the accident and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where he died, police and hospital authorities said. The driver managed to escape from the scene.

Similarly, an unidentified person was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle near Soan in Sihala on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, two persons, who were injured in separate road accidents on Sunday, died on Wednesday.

Sardar Mohammad Ashraf, 60, a resident of Azad Kashmir, was injured after being hit by a motorcycle near Liaquat Bagh on Sunday. The motorcyclist, identified as Zeeshan, was also injured in the accident. Both were shifted to the DHQ hospital where Sardar Mohammad Ashraf died on Wednesday, police and hospital authorities said.

In the second incident, a teenage boy, who was critically injured after being run over by a car driven by an army officer at Chur Chowk on Sunday, died at the DHQ hospital on Wednesday.

BURGLARY: Mirza Mohammad Amil, a resident of New Lalazar Colony, told the Civil Lines police that burglars broke into his house and stole his car (ADK-267).

Meanwhile, gas supply to a vast residential area in the jurisdiction of R.A. Bazaar police station remained suspended when a truck hit a gas supply station (TBS) on Wednesday morning, eye-witnesses and police said.

On hearing the sound of the explosion and ambulance sirens, a large number of people came out of their houses.

The emergency staff of the Sui Gas department rushed to the scene and turned off the valves.

According to the Sui Gas authorities, repair work on the damaged pipeline was under progress till Wednesday night.

The driver, who is yet to be identified, escaped from the scene, leaving his vehicle.

APP ADDS: Unidentified persons looted the house of Dr .Ehsan at Sector E-7 and escaped after taking away the cash, two T.V sets, a computer, two digital telephone sets and other valuables of about Rs200,000.
