Maisam slams another century

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, March 4: Maisam Hasnain chalked up his second century in the NBP One-day Patron’s Cup as Karachi Whites thrashed Bahawalpur by 113 runs at UBL Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Man-of-the-Match Maisam, who made 113 against Pakistan Customs last week, blasted 140 off 160 deliveries. The former Pakistan Under-19 captain lashed 18 fours and one six to help his side reach a mammoth 301 for six in 50 overs.

Arif Mahmood, the big-hitting all-rounder, struck a whirlwind unbeaten 51 off only 26 balls with the aid of four huge sixes and three fours.

Bahawalpur, in reply, were sent packing for 188 in 40.4 overs despite all-rounder Kamran Hussain’s 55 off 54 balls. The left-hander stroked four fours and a brace of sixes.

Arif Mahmood and Tahir Khan shared six wickets between. Arif, the slow left-armer, took three for 26 while off-spinner Tahir finished with three for 30.

Meanwhile, PIA stormed into the quarterfinals with an easy nine-wicket victory over Lahore Blues at National Stadium.

Off-spinner Shoaib Malik was the wrecker-in-chief with excellent figures of five for 35 in 9.5 overs as Lahore Blues were shot out for just 96 in 36.5 overs.

Faisal Iqbal then struck an unbeaten 52 off 49 balls as his side reached their small target in 17.1 overs for the loss of one wicket. Faisal slammed nine boundaries.
