KARACHI, March 3: Jockey Latif and riding boy Tariq Baran stole the racing limelight, when they each finished the afternoon’s programme with a brace of winners at the Winter Gymkhana Meeting, held on Monday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Latif had his triumphs through the chestnut gelding Afzaal Prince in the second event and completed his fine double astride Faisal Farooq’s chestnut colt Captain Crash, the winner of the sixth race, holding off a belated challenge of Sarazan, with Royal Lancer and Order Of The Day completing the frame.

Riding boy Tariq, who seems to be improving tremendously, scored his first winner of the afternoon through the grey gelding Sarafan, engaged in a keen duel for supremacy by Mera Jugnoo and Just In Fun.

Then to put the icing on the cake, his second winner came through the much worked out bay mare Guarantee, lowering the colours of Jugni, Snake Eyed, Welcome Shahtab and Free Lancer in the concluding event.

Also sharing in the glory was trainer Shahjeh, who saddled Sarafan and Guarantee.

The first race of the afternoon was picked up by Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s Royal Promise ridden by young Naveed. Century was a good second, followed home by Millennium Era and Sher Khan.

Rahat Sultan’s Sachin, made it two winners on the trot for the beaming owner, passing the winning post ahead of a late appearing Prism Of Life, Rashmee and Clever Cat.

In the fourth race of the afternoon, Black Magic continuing with her fine form, registered a third triumph in her last four outings, registering another popular victory over Mark, Great Bakht and High Speed.

In the last race won by Guarantee, the performance of Free Lancer was absolutely baffling. Although the chestnut horse has been promoted up two divisions, his running in this race finishing off the board amongst the also rans was a total disgrace.

No way can the winner Guarantee beat Free Lancer in a fair race.

The next race meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 19.
