MUZAFFARABAD, March 1: A man was killed after he fell from road onto the rocky bank of River Neelum, northeast of here.

Police said on Friday Mohammad Yaqoob Abbasi, an army canteen contractor, was going on foot to Jura village through the main Neelum Valley road near Seemari village on Thursday night, when the incident occurred.

The road is closed to all kinds of vehicular traffic for being in the range of India’s small arms fire.

Yaqoob’s body was spotted on the river bank by some residents on Friday, who retrieved it from there with much difficulty, a police official said.

Meanwhile, a motor mechanic, Zahid, was critically injured on Friday after the vehicle he was driving went out of control and plunged into the River Jhelum, near the town of Hattian Bala, some 35km south of here.

The vehicle was with the mechanic for some repair work.
