KARACHI: Nazim alleges meddling

KARACHI, Feb 28: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan fears hindrances in carrying out development schemes in the city as, according to him, interference by assembly members and ministers in the city government affairs has increased.

“We did not face any hindrances during the last 16 months and undertook record development activities in the city,” he said while addressing at the launching ceremony of the sanitation campaign— From Offal to Comforts— in Gulberg Town last night.

The city Nazim claimed that none of the Nazims belonging to the Al-Khidmat group was involved in corruption and nepotism. He vowed to bring an end to extortion and said he did not believe in the politics of plots, permits and bribe, a city government press release said.

NADRA CENTRE: Naimatullah Khan has urged the citizen to avail themselves of the high-tech facility of Nadra Swift Registration Centre (NSRCs), and get themselves registered.

The database and computerised national identity cards (CNICs) for nationals would help a lot in assessing the development projects of the local government, he said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Swift Registration Centre (NSRC) in SITE Town on Friday.

“Since Karachi is one of the biggest cities in Asia, its government needs to have accurate and correct figures regarding citizens, when it launches any development project,” said the Nazim.

He urged Nadra high-ups to set up more and more counters in the city and asked the citi-zens to co-operate with the authority.

The project includes creation of a database which already has a data of over 43 million

people. Nadra has so far distributed 2.9168 million CNICs to the Karachiites, while over 200,000 cards are currently under the process of distribution.—APP
