KARACHI: Karachiites urged to make anti-war rally successful

KARACHI, Feb 27: Prominent writers, poets, social scientists, artistes, politicians and educationists have appealed to the people to participate in the rally, followed by a procession, to protest against the impending US attack on Iraq. The rally is to be held on Friday (Feb 28) outside Karachi Press Club.

In a joint statement, issued here on Thursday, they said that the US and Britain seemed determined to attack Iraq in defiance of the world opinion quite evident from the worldwide demonstrations by millions of people.

The unanimous resolutions adopted at international summits, World Social Forum, Non-Aligned Movement moot, besides thousands of other conferences and rallies around the world opposed the possible US strikes against Iraq, they observed.

They maintained that all the universally accepted principles of peace, democracy, human rights and civilized behaviours were in jeopardy as the innocent people of Iraq faced an imminent US-UK attack that would have devastating effect on peace and stability in the region and in the world.

They appealed to the Karachiites to join in the protest against the threat of this naked aggression.—PPI
