Disqualified Nazim held

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, Feb 24: A former Nazim of Shahpur union council who was disqualified by the Election Commission for contesting the elections on a fake matriculation certificate, has been arrested and sent to prison in a fraud case, anti-corruption sources told Dawn on Monday.

Nazim Sarli Gul, a retired army havaldar was disqualified a month ago on the complaint of the runner up candidate that his certificate was fake. The fact was established during an inquiry by the Election Commission which disqualified him and appointed the runner up as Nazim in his place.

Later the new Nazim Qadir Khan registered an FIR against Sarli Gul accusing him of misusing public funds worth Rs87,000. The anti-corruption staff raided the residence of Sarli Gul and his secretary Shah Zaman and sent them to jail.
