Published February 25, 2003

KARACHI, Feb 24: Mohajir Quami Movement (Haqiqi) leader and MNA Mehmood Ahmed Qureshi on Monday filed contempt of court petition against chief controller of buildings, director-general rangers, and others before Judicial Magistrate East and prayed to punish the contemners as they violated the court orders.

His counsel Sohail Hameed submitted that the order for sealing of MQM headquarters, Baitul Hamza, passed by Judicial Magistrate, East, on Nov 18, 2002, was set aside by Additional District and Sessions Judge, East, on Feb 22.

He stated the court directed the defendants to hand over possession of Baitul Hamza to petitioner but in mean time, the KBCA and law-enforcement agencies demolished walls and gates of the party headquarter, broke its seal and affixed the KBCA seal.

He contended Chief Controller KBCA, Brig. (Ret) Nasir and law enforcement agencies were required to obey the law and constitution.—PPI
