KARACHI, Feb 23: The institution of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh received 79,467 complaints during the past ten years, and of these 71,838 were disposed of, providing relief to 13,422 people.
This was said by provincial ombudsman Justice (retd) Haziqul Khairi, while speaking in a radio programme on Sunday.
He said some 2000 pending cases would be disposed of in the next few months.
Haziqul Khairi said the jurisdiction of the provincial ombudsman Sindh was quite vast and it required some more advisors and consultants.
He stated that the office of ombudsman initiated suo moto actions, and in that connection a committee was formed to carry out surprise visits to police stations to ascertain complaints pertaining to habeas corpus.
He said a grant of Rs5.5 million was promised for improving the condition Wazir Mansion and a bachat bazar was removed from Jehangir Park in Saddar. Development work was also initiated at Jheel Park and employees of the local government got the right of pension.
Justice Khairi said that steps were taken regarding complaints by the allottees of the MDA project and 9,000 of such allottees got their money back.
He said opinion had been sought from a cross section of people to help improve the conditions of graveyards.—APP
