By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 16: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar, Leader of the Opposition in the provincial assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, and leaders of various political and religious parties have condemned the murder of Khalid Bin Waleed, a former MPA and one of the front-line leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, in an attack here on Sunday.

Mr Weleed was passing through the Block N of North Nazimabad in a car after leaving home when unknown assailants opened fire at the vehicle. He sustained fatal bullet injuries.

The governor described the killing as an act of terrorism and said no amount of condemnation of this gruesome incident would suffice to show the heinousness of this act. Addressing a function, held here in honour of the prominent orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, disclosed that Khalid Bin Waleed was getting ready to attend this function when killed.

“This incident is an act of sabotage against peace,” he remarked.

The chief minister expressed profound grief and sorrow over the Mr Waleed’s demise and ordered an investigation into the affair. He also ordered that the culprits involved in the attack be taken to task.

He warned that the government was fully capable to deal with the people involved in such heinous crimes.

The anti-social elements, he added, would not be allowed to achieve their objective of derailing the democratic process through such criminal acts.

The Federal Minister for Production, Liaquat Ali Jatoi said that the killing of Khalid Bin Waleed was a setback to the patriotic citizens and a matter of shock and grief. Offering his condolence to the bereaved family and the senior deputy convener of the MQM’s coordination committee, Dr Farooq Sattar, the minister said that he joined them in this hour of grief.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Leader of the Opposition and the PPP’s Parliamentary Party leader, strongly condemned the murderous attack on Khalid Bin Waleed and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. He expressed his shock and grief over the death of the prominent Muttahida leader and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), Sindh, and Jamaat-i-Islami have expressed their shock and grief over the murder of Khalid Bin Waleed.

The provincial chief of MMA, Maulana Asadullah Bhutto (MNA), and the general secretary of JI, Sindh, Rashid Naseem, termed the murder “a conspiracy to push the metropolis towards anarchy and lawlessness” and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

They said the situation was a manifestation of total failure of the government agencies responsible for law and order.

Muhammad Abbas Quaderi, chief of Sunni Tehreek, described the attack as an act of terrorism and said that it was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy by those who did not like to see peace and harmony restored.

He called for the arrest of all those involved in the attack and demanded that the motive behind Mr Waleed’s elimination be made public. He offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

Mufti Qari Razaul Mustafa Azmi and Haji Muhammad Hanif Billu, Patron and Chairman of Tehreek Awam Ahle Sunnat Pakistan respectively, Allama Riazuddin Quaderi, Zia Abbas of National People’s Party, Farooq Memon Faria, Nazim of Saddar Town and several other political and religious figures have also condemned the Muttahida activist’s murder and offered condolences to the bereaved.
