ISLAMABAD, Feb 14: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has lauded the Punjab government’s legislation and decisions regarding people’s welfare.

Talking to the Punjab chief minister, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, who called on him here to offer Eid greetings, the prime minister said the Punjab government had set a laudable precedent for the rest of the provinces by legislating law about weddings.

The government wanted to change the condition of the common man and for this purpose several welfare projects for all the provinces were being worked out, which was a step towards economic prosperity, the prime minister said.

During the meeting, Punjab chief minister informed the prime minister about pace of legislation in the last session of provincial assembly.

The Punjab chief minister said the provincial assembly in its sitting approved five bills in which most important bill was about restriction on serving of food in marriage parties. The assembly also passed another bill about provincial ombudsman, he added.

The chief minister told the PM that in the next sessions of provincial assembly, a bill for restriction of smoking on children would be tabled for discussion and a law would be passed through legislation in this regard. To stop the increasing incidents of car theft and robberies, necessary amendments would be made in the laws, he added.

Referring to the legislation on education and his government’s decision in this connection, the chief minister said an incentive package had been prepared which included provision of free education upto matriculation for showing good results and minimizing dropout rate.
