KARACHI, Feb 11: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city since late Monday night.
An infant died and his mother was injured in a road accident in Lyari late Monday night.
The police said Tahira, aged 25, wife of Aijaz, was on way to a wedding function carrying her one-and-a-half-month old baby Zain when a speeding coach (CT-1925) hit her on Shah Abdul Latif Road in Kalri while walking across the road.
The police claimed to have arrested the driver of the passenger coach and impounded the coach.
A cyclist died when a water tanker knocked him down in Ibrahim Hyderi late Monday night.
The police said a water tanker (LSA-2259) knocked down Naeem, aged 17, riding a bicycle, in Chakra goth.
The water tanker driver escaped after the accident.
The body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy.
An unidentified young man died in a road accident in Site on Tuesday.
The police said an unidentified man riding a motorcycle (HDL-8458) was knocked down by a speeding minibus of route A-25 (JE-3801) near the Habib Bank Chowrangi.
He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
ROBBERIES: Two robberies were committed in the city on Tuesday, the police said.
Armed men barged into Mohammed Saleem’s house in North Nazimabad’s Block N, held the family hostage at gunpoint, and got away with Rs200,000, prize bonds worth Rs75,000 and jewellery.
In Gulistan-i-Jauhar, four bandits robbed at gunpoint 15 passengers of a Gulistan coach.
DIE: An elderly man died in mysterious circumstances near Kalapul bridge on Tuesday.
The police said Mohammed Nadeem, aged 65, was found dead near Kalapul. The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem where the report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological report, the police said.
The body of a fisherman who died at sea during a fishing trip was brought to the fisheries on Tuesday.
A fishing boat had gone on a fishing trip in November. During the trip, Amir Bakhsh, aged 50, fell into the sea due to strong currents. He was rescued, but later on he fell ill.
After the incident, the group decided to return home, but when they reached near Ormara on Feb 7, Amir died.
The dead fishermen was resident of Malakand Agency, the police said.
