KARACHI: Officials asked not to misuse electricity

KARACHI, Feb 9: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B Rind on Sunday expressed concern over unnecessary usage of electricity and directed the secretaries of all departments and heads of corporations to keep tabs on the practice.

He issued the directive after an internal electricity consumption monitoring committee’s report said that electricity was being misused in government offices and buildings, causing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.

The chief secretary has set up various monitoring committees to check misuse of power, dereliction of duty and to improve office environment. The committees directly forward its reports to the chief secretary.

The electricity consumption monitoring committee in its report said that overuse of electricity had become a tradition in public offices during office hours.

The committee pointed out that in a majority of cases, officials and staff did not switch off fans and lights before leaving their offices. Mr Rind also appealed to the masses to abandon misusing electricity in the best interest of the nation.—PPI
