KARACHI, Feb 3: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday called for promotion of tourism for investment promotion and revival of economy in Sindh.

He said nature has blessed Sindh with rich bounties which if streamlined effectively, can help generate opportunities of investment, commercial activities and employment.

He was presiding over a meeting of Provincial Committee on Investment held at Governor’s House on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister Adil Siddiqi, Chief Secretary K.B. Rind, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Secretary of Industries Raja Mohammed Abbas, Committee Secretary Muslim Abbasi and other officials.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Asia-Link Network, led by its chairman Sami Mian, met Governor Ishratul Ibad.

The governor stressed the need for participation of private sector for promotion of tourism. He said a conducive atmosphere and proper infrastructure is being provided for investment. However, a fast progress in this regard can be achieved by making the tourist spots more beautiful and attractive.

He told the delegation that vast opportunities for cooperation in trade and education sectors exist between Pakistan and European countries and the government would provide all facilities to exploit the same.

Chief Secretary K.B. Rind informed the meeting that the government had allocated Rs 100 million this year for development of Gorakh Hill Station and with this amount, facilities of water, roads and electricity were being improved.

He said out of 57 km long road, 26 km had been constructed while efforts were being made to complete the remaining work expeditiously.

He said that President Pervez Musharraf also has promised all possible cooperation and provision of funds, if required, for Gorakh Hill project.

The governor called for chalking out an action plan for examining the establishment of Dolphin Park near Boating basin.

The secretary of Investment Committee, Muslim Abbasi, apprised the meeting about various investment plans.—APP
