KARACHI: Coastal areas to be developed for farmers, tourists: CS
KARACHI, Feb 3: As the provincial government is developing coastal agriculture sector, cultivators and agriculturists are welcomed to avail the opportunity and join in the activity.
This was stated by the Chief Secretary, K. B. Rind, while talking to a group of journalists at his office here on Monday.
He said that under the coastal agriculture programme, growers would be supplied with seeds of certain crops which require less water. The aim of the programme, he added, was to ensure a better use of land and employment to farmers and growers.
In the coastal areas of Thatta, the CS said, ocean resources would be exploited plantation would be carried out provide a favourable environment for shrimp farming. Besides, growth and preservation of fish in the area would be ensured, he added.
Responding to a questioner, the CS said that departments
of Environment and Culture
& Tourism were devising a strategy to establish tourist resorts and picnic spots along the
coastline as part of the development and beautification of Karachi. The move, he said, would help earn foreign exchange through tourism.
Mr Rind said that a number of proposals from various departments were under consideration for the development of coastal areas where the provincial government intended to establish availability of recreational activities of international standards. He was of the view that the development of beaches and picnic spot would ultimately give a boost to economic activity and eventually support the economy.
He sought active support and cooperation from the agriculturists and businessman community in this regard.—PPI/APP
