PESHAWAR, Feb 2: Former NWFP chief minister and provincial president of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Pir Sabir Shah, said on Sunday that the government was working to advance the agenda of army generals instead of striving for the betterment of the people.

Talking to a delegation of party workers of Hangu district here on Sunday, he said the country was at a crossroads because the weak rulers had no concern for the country and the people. He said the rulers were pursuing an agenda given to them by military generals.

He said the prices of essential commodities were rising everyday and people were being deprived of their jobs, which had led to increase in suicides.

He said the common people were finding it difficult to cope with increasing prices of petrol and rampant unemployment.

He said the rulers had failed to deliver on domestic and external fronts.

The United States registration law, he said, would badly affect some 200,000 people but the government was trying to appease it.

Sabir Shah said the rulers should attend to the problems being faced by the people and stop implementing United States dictates.

He alleged that false statements about the foreign currency reserves were issued to please the people but they would feel the difference only when they could buy items of daily use with ease.
