KARACHI, Jan 31: Free Lancer, a chestnut horse is fancied in these columns to complete a hat trick of wins for trainer Nazir, when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets underway on Saturday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Last week under jockey Arshad, the chestnut won a five furlong sprint, beating the favourite Slim Fit by 4 4/5 lengths.

Participating in the fourth race of the afternoon, also going over five furlongs, Free Lancer should be followed home by Defence Academy, another runner on the hat trick trail and Sher Zai.

All in all seven events have been drawn up on the racing card. The first five will be run over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, while the last two will be held over six.

The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.

In the opener with 10 runners vying for the top honours, Sunday Silence should make amends for the last outing and pass the winning post ahead of Royal Promise and Century.

Rich Valiant tracking well in the morning exercises, looks a good thing to overcome the likes of the chestnut horse Daru and the bay mare Rukhsar, in the next event.

The bay six-year-old horse Present Will, finishing a close second last week to Tarzan, should find the going good on Saturday and lower the colours of Mera Sulman and Powerful Tarzan in the third event.

Miss S. Laila Rizvi’s three-year-old bay filly Sweet Emotion, with a good rider astride, should pick up the spoils from Champion Lady and High Standard in the following event. However, danger lurks in the shadows in the form of Lady’s Love.

Welcome Shahtab, caused quite a stir two weeks ago when galloping to victory under riding boy Bashir Karim. If ticking again, the nine-year-old bay mare should pass the winning post ahead of the speedy Sapno Ki Rani and Deniro, unlucky to finish second in his last outing.

The last event should provide quite a few thrills for the racing fans with three runners in contention to win this six furlong race.

Although many racegoers may fancy the throroughbrd bay horse Charkh Bareen, after losing her six furlong sprint a week ago to Lover’s Way by half a length, our column fancies the bay mare Fire Of Desire, with two victories already under her belt to beat Charkh Bareen with Dur-e-Yaman grabbing the third spot.
