HYDERABAD, Jan 30: A large number of students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) held a demonstration and sit-in at the university gate on Thursday to protest against the excesses of the university administration and police.
According to the leaders of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF), Asif Memon, Imdad Ali, Shahid Jamali, and Badar Junejo, the university administration had withdrawn point buses due to the visit of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad to the Sindh University where he was to preside over the convocation.
The student leaders said that they had no choice but to travel on foot to attend their classes.
They said that the university authorities and police presumed that the students were going to hold a protest demonstration on the visit of the Sindh governor; therefore, their movement was restricted and they were not allowed to go to their classes resulting in their protest.
They alleged that the police had also resorted to firing which was denied by the police.
Asif Memon told the Bureau that he had talked to the chief secretary on the telephone, who had assured that a student delegation would be allowed to call on the Sindh governor after which the protest was called off.
SCHOOL BUILDING: The DCO has directed the district officer, education works, to start construction of the building of a primary school in Citizen Colony in undisputed area.
The DCO was presiding over a meeting, held here the other day, which discussed a claim made by a private party on some portion of the school plot.
He said the dispute should be resolved through the Board of Revenue. Hyderabad Citizen Housing Society representatives attended the meeting.
Revenue record: A meeting of district revenue officers was held at the Shahbaz Hall here the other day.
The meeting discussed the collection of revenue record, completion of field books and computerization of the record.
Speaking at the meeting, Sindh Board of Revenue member Mohammad Ishaq Lashari explained the process of computerization to the officers and said the work should be completed within 20 days.
