ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a scheme titled “Computerization and Networking Enhancement Programmes” for National University of Modern Languages (Numl) at a cost of about Rs35 million, said an official statement.

The scheme was approved in a meeting of Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP), which was presided over by the executive director, Dr S. M. Hassan.

The main objective of the scheme is to develop infrastructure of e-offices at the university that includes local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN).

The internet and intranet e-mail facilities provided under the scheme will be used by the students of postgraduate courses, researchers, and faculty members for inter office communication.

The project aims at automating both the routine work of the university and overall academic and research activities as per new technological facilities.

Under the project, LAN/WAN implementation and customized database designing will be completed by introducing information and communication technology in all areas of academic and administrative work.

It will help the university employees to effectively handle routine jobs, internal communication, finance and budgeting.

Moreover, this activity will enable the institution to establish academic network with various universities and institutions for exchange of useful information. In addition to facilitating over 1,200 students each year, the project will provide training facility to about 550 teachers, researchers and employees of the university.
