RAWALPINDI, Jan 29: The additional district and sessions judge, Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu, on Wednesday awarded death sentence to two persons, who had robbed and later strangled a cab driver.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 each on the convicts, Ayaz Khan and Irfan. In case of non-payment, both will have to undergo an additional six months in jail.

The court also awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment each to both of them for robbing the taxi driver, Ajmal Khan, and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 each. They will also have to serve another six months in jail in case of non-payment of fine.

In the court, the prosecution had contended that the convicts had hired a cab for Adiala. When they reached near Adiala, both the men robbed and later murdered the driver. The prosecution presented evidence in favour of its claim.

TWO-YEAR RI: Judge Aslam Khan awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment to an official of the public health engineering department for his involvement in corruption.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the convict, Khalid Javid Khabo. In case of non-payment, the convict will have to undergo another six months in jail.

According to the prosecution, the convict, who was a draughtsman in the public health engineering department, had taken bribe while approving maps of various buildings.

DRUG-TRAFFICKER: The additional district and sessions judge, Syed Pervez Ali Shah, awarded six months rigorous imprisonment to a drug-trafficker.

The court has imposed a fine of Rs2,000 on the convict, Mohammad Tahir, and in case of default of payment of fine, he will have to serve another month of imprisonment.

The civil line police had seized half kg of charas from the accused during a search operation.

BAIL REJECTED: The same court rejected the bail application of another accused, Mohammad Sajjad, who had allegedly murdered a person, Khuda Bakhsh, in the jurisdiction of Chauntra police station.

In another case, the additional district and sessions judge, Sanaullah Malik, has issued a stay in an abduction and rape case and directed the judge of a family court, Shazia Zafar Raja, to provide an opportunity to the alleged victim to record her statement.
