KARACHI: Route buses without permits to be impounded

KARACHI, Jan 29: The District Regional Transport Board Karachi has decided to impose fines and impound all such buses and minibuses that are plying in the city without route permits.

Such vehicles will be given a week‘s time to obtain route permits and after expiry of this period, they will be fined under the law, and if they fail the vehicles will be impounded by the vigilance committees to be appointed by the DRTB.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here on Wednesday and chaired by DCO Karachi Shafique Rahman Paracha, who is also chairman of the board.

There will be four vigilance committees, each consisting of deputy district officer revenue and representatives of the traffic police and the transport & communication department.

The board approved a route for a private company to operate new buses from Surjani Town through North Karachi, Lasbela, Guru Mandir, M.A. Jinnah Road, Zaibu Nisa Street, Shaheen Complex and I.I. Chundrigar Road to Tower. While returning, due to one-way status of Zaibu Nisa Street, the buses will pass through Abdullah Haroon Road.

The approval has been granted on the recommendations of a committee appointed by the Sindh government. It had suggested the approval be granted on trial basis for two months. However the board granted approval it for a month.—PPI
