KARACHI: City govt spending Rs850m on development projects
KARACHI, Jan 28: Work on different projects of water, electricity, sewerage and better road system under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme is going on at a fast pace.
Over Rs858 million are being spent on more than 200 projects under the third phase of the KPP, and 180 of them have been completed at a cost of Rs650 million.
The city government is trying to complete the remaining schemes by the next month through accelerating the pace of work. Rs284.40 million are being spent on 24 schemes of water and sewerage alone. The programme also includes schemes for provision of electricity, education and basic amenities in rural areas.
The schemes on which work is at present in progress include six schemes of sewerage, two of water supply and 12 schemes of roads. Work is also in progress on the city’s four busy and important roundabouts. These are Banaras Chowk, Guru Mandir, Old Exhibition and Nagan Chowrangi. These round abouts are being turned into siganlised intersections.
According to the city government sources, special attention has been paid on the KPP schemes having public importance. The objective kept in view is to provide basic facilities to people and redress their grievances with regard to provision of civic amenities.
The new Preedy Street project has also been included in the KPP. Under this programme a road is being constructed from Saddar Dawakhana up to Mazar-i-Quaid at the cost of Rs68 million. It is expected to be completed by the next month.
The schemes of sewerage in Lines Area, Orangi, Jamia Millia and North Nazimabad are also expected to be completed in February.
The city government is spending Rs10 million on the construction of a Nullah at the Habifabad Town office in Orangi and another for sewerage disposal is being constructed at a cost of Rs2.4 million from 100-Quarters to Iqbal Cloth House in Lines Area.—APP
