Villagers kill two bandits in shootout

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Jan 26: Two dacoits were killed on Sunday in a shootout with villagers in Joyana village, Qila Dedar Singh.

Three armed bandits entered the house of general councillor Nasir Mahmood by scaling its boundary wall. They held the inmates hostage at pistol point, tied them with ropes and started scooping cash and jewellery. Nasreen Bibi, sister-in-law of Nasir, got herself freed and raised an alarm.

The area people, including their relatives, reached there, but the bandits opened fire on them. As a result, councillor’s brother Ehsanullah sustained bullet wounds. The villagers also returned the fire and killed two dacoits instantly while their third accomplice managed to escape in the dark.

Qila Dedar Singh police recovered a triple-two rifle, a 7mm rifle, a pump action gun and several cartridges from the spot. Police removed the bodies to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
