EC not to give legal advice

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 19: Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan said on Sunday he was not required to tender legal advice on matters relating to elections.

An announcement by the CEC said that the process of election to the Senate had been elaborated in the relevant legal provisions such as the Senate (Election) Act, 1975, the Conduct of General Elections Order, 2002, etc., which could be consulted by the candidates or political parties or their legal experts as and when required.

“It would not be proper for the Chief Election Commissioner to tender legal advice on matters relating to election as ultimately such matters may come to the Election Commission for final decisions in accordance with law.”
