Order Of The Day sprints to victory

KARACHI, Jan 19: Order Of The Day, the blue five-year-old roan ridden by Aamir Ali, won the sixth race in style, storming in from behind at the Winter Gymkhana Meeting held on Sunday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Starting off as our day’s best, Order Of The Day could be had six and sevens and 80/100 for a place chance.

When the race began, Recent Command ridden by A. Rahim took a flying start and was chased by the grey gelding Ever Shine and High Standard. Order Of The Day starting off slowly remained far behind amongst the other runners.

When heads turned for home, Ever Shine took over the lead closely followed by High Standard and Recent Command. Suddenly Order Of The Day made his run and getting an opening near the railing sprinted home to victory collaring the front runners 200 yards from the winning post. Ever Shine finished third and was followed home by High Standard and Recent Command.

In the opener Gharnata, another column fancy won the five furlong sprint at 8 to 1 odds, beating Daru and Darbari Malang on the way.

The gelding ridden by Asghar Ali never gave the connections any anxious moments streaking past the winning post.

The much talked about Ford Mustang, finally tried by the connections won the next race like a champion with jockey Shahzad in the saddle.

The winner was followed by Great Bakht, Rich Valiant, throttled by his rider last time out and Jango.

Riding bout Tariq Baran also finished the afternoon’s programme among the winners, piloting Sarafan to a narrow victory over the favourite Gold Money.

Another popular winner was Aamir Sultan’s nine-year-old dark bay horse Maha Sagar with champion jockey M. Nasir astride, winning a pillar to post victory over the fast approaching Dushtiyani.

Syed Sadruddin Shah’s thoroughbred chestnut filly Royal Lancer ridden by S. Khan won the fifth event as she pleased from Sajan Black and Flying Bird.

Lover’s Way ridden by Imamdin won the concluding event, storming to victory over Donatello, Sarazan and Guarantee. Jugni who set a scorching pace went wide at the bend and finished off the board.

The next race meeting is scheduled for Sunday Jan 27.
