KARACHI: MMA slams registration of murder case

KARACHI, Jan 18: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani has alleged that implicating of Syed Munawar Hassan and Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui in a false murder case showed that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was once again planning to “terrorise the citizens of Karachi.”

In a statement on Saturday, he said that the people of Pakistan had voted in favour of the MMA because of its manifesto, which promised peace and prosperity. He said registration of false cases against the leaders of Jamaat-i-Islami was a bid to damage the image of the MMA.

“People of Karachi know very well that MQM activists kill each other due to their internal differences,” he alleged.

Maulana Noorani said that if the governor of Sindh considered himself to be a representative of the federation, he should take action against those involved in terrorist activities.

Meanwhile, MMA leaders Allama Hassan Turabi, Dr Khalid Mahmood Soomro, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Qari Mohammad Usman and others have condemned registration of a murder case against the JI leaders and said that the MQM should respect other political parties.

“The religious party not only claims to have made efforts for the welfare of the city but has also taken practical steps in this regard. The MQM should respect leaders of other political parties, otherwise it would have to borne the consequences,” they added.

DEMO: A large number of women activists and children belonging to the Jamaat-i-Islami and other component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Saturday staged a protest demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club against putting on fire of the UC-7 Nazim office in Gulberg Town, arrest of workers and registration of cases against the JI leaders.

The demonstrators demanded withdrawal of “false cases” against Merajul Huda Siddiqui and Syed Munawar Hassan and added that the provincial government should stop interference in the affairs of the city government.

They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans like, “Muttahida should stop spying for the FBI, etc.”

Talking to newsmen, JI women leaders said that after formation of the Sindh government, unjustified and arbitrary activities had been undertaken against the JI leaders, activists, supporters and elected representatives of the city government.

Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully. Heavy contingents of police and rangers had been deployed to avert any untoward incident.—PPI
