HYDERABAD, Jan 13: The secretary, education, Nazar Hussain Mahar, on Monday directed the EDO (education), Manzoor Hussain Bhutto, to start compulsory primary education in two more talukas of Hyderabad district.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting.

He asked the EDO to collect exact data during the census being held in the education department.

He said that the school management committees should pay greater attention to provision of furniture in schools.

Stressing on the need for providing computers in colleges where they were not available, the education secretary said that the DEO, colleges, should ensure the provision of the facility of Internet in schools where computers were available.

The secretary, who visited the Model School, GOR Colony, along with the EDO, called for preparing a scheme for starting O- and A-level classes in the schools of the city.

The Secretary also visited the Government High School, Detha, and the Rashid Memorial Complex in Rashidabad.

During his visit to the school, he expressed his annoyance over the working of the education works department and the contractor.

THEFT: Unidentified thieves stole goods and cash worth almost Rs700,000 from the residence of one Mohammad Yaqoob in Al-Fazal town, Pinyari, on Sunday night.

Mr Yaqoob’s family was not in the house when the incident took place. Mr Yaqoob lodged an FIR with the Pinyari police on Monday.

According to his nephew, Ghulam Murtaza, the goods included jewellry worth Rs600,000.

He said the police had not taken any action despite the fact that they had disclosed the names of the suspects.
