Ghulam Ali canes Karachi Blues

RAWALPINDI, Jan 8: PIA made a cracking start to their match against Karachi Blues with Ghulam Ali flogging the rival attack with a blazing 178 not out in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Group IV match at KRL Stadium.

At the close of play, PIA were a comfortable 317 for two with Ghulam looking well set to get to the double century mark. With him at the crease was Asif Mujtaba on 59 not out.

Ghulam faced 265 balls and was at the wicket for 328 minutes during which he smashed 22 fours and three sixes. Asif hit nine boundaries in his knock.

Also a major contributor was Yasir Hameed, who scored an invaluable 64, an innings laced with six fours.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi were dismissed for a paltry 158 in their game against KRL at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Pacer Jaffer Nazir was the chief wrecker and snapped up five wickets by conceding just 15 runs while all-rounder Yasir Arafat took three for 50. Shiraz Khalid topscored with 44.

In reply, KRL were 157 for three when play ended for the day. Saeed Anwar Jnr was the main scorer hitting a fine 83. Muhammad Ramzan was unbeaten on 59 along with Zulfiqar Jan who was five not out.
