KARACHI: Statements recorded in PSO MD murder case

KARACHI, Jan 8: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday recorded the depositions of four prosecution witnesses in the Shaukat Mirza murder case against the chief of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and his two associates.
Judge Khan Pervaiz Chang, who is holding the trial inside the Central Prison, fixed Thursday for recording further evidence.
Akram Lahori, the self-styled chief of the proscribed sectarian outfit, Ataullah and Azam are being tried for allegedly killing the managing-director of the Pakistan State Oil on July 26, 2001.
The prosecution witnesses, including the son as well as son-in-law of the slain PSO chief, were also cross-examined by the defence counsel, M.R. Syed.
The hearing began at around 11:30am and continued till 4pm. The prosecution is being represented by special public prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti, who has so far examined seven witnesses against the accused persons.
KIDNAPPING CASE: An anti-terrorism court put off the hearing of a kidnapping-for-ransom case against two police officials and two other accused.
Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Tuesday for the examination of further evidence against ASI Shahzad Baig, constable Jawaid Nazeer, Waseem Ansari and Mujahid Hussain, after recording the statements of two prosecution witnesses.
Complainant Mohammed Jaffer deposed that the accused came to his house in a car (B-6324) belonging to Wasim Ansari and took his wife, the two women and the two contractors in their car and in a hired taxi.
The accused released the complainant to arrange Rs50,000 for the release of his wife, who was in their custody along with her two colleagues. The accused also released the two contractors after extorting whatever money they had with them.
