LAHORE, Jan 6: The city district government will set up a control room to redress public grievances on Basant, make arrangements for telecasting the World Cup matches on big screens in parks and give the provincial metropolis a festive look during the spring festival.

The decisions were taken at a meeting here on Monday to review arrangements for the Basant and Spring festivals with district Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood in the chair.

DCO Khalid Sultan will monitor the working of the control room to be set up for three days from February 7 to hear the people’s complaints regarding the use of metal wire for kite-flying and resulting electricity outages and firing, etc.

The meeting also decided to build ornamental gates and display colourful banners at Thokar Niazbeg, Ravi bridge, Minar-i-Pakistan, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Motorway, airport and railway station to welcome the visitors to the provincial metropolis. Gifts would be distributed among the air passengers. An All-Pakistan Mushaira would also be organized.

The district Nazim ordered that street-lights should be put in order in the city and teams comprising Wapda, police and government officials be constituted to nab the people using metal wire for flying kites.
