KARACHI, Dec 29: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Husain has said Dr Ishratul Ibad is not the governor of any particular party but the governor of the entire oppressed people of Sindh, who would serve the people without any discrimination and work for safeguarding the fundamental rights of all the people of the province, the rule of law and progress and prosperity of the people.
He was speaking by phone to party workers’ meetings in different cities of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Thatta, Badin, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Dadu and Larkana on Sunday.
Terming the appointment of Dr Ibad as governor of Sindh the first success of the 98 per cent poor and middle-class people, Mr Husain said the day was not far when the feudal system would be eliminated from the country and the oppressed would rule the country.
He extended greetings to women, elders and youths, particularly Sindhi- speaking party workers, and said it was not the victory of any individual or movement, but the victory of all the deprived and oppressed people. “It is a victory of everyone who considers the poor people a human being and an equal citizen of Pakistan,” he added.
He said revolutions do not occur overnight but calls for long and concerted efforts, adding that taking a cue from our struggle every political and religious party is now emphasizing the need for the elimination of feudalism.
He said the obsolete feudal system is the biggest obstacle to the development of society and the country, and we want to remove this obstacle. “It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a person from the poor and middle class has been appointed to the high office of governor of Sindh. This is the first stone cast into the stagnant water of feudalism,” he added.
Mr Husain said those who had been opposing the appointment of Dr Ishratul Ibad as governor were against the leadership of the poor and middle class and were protectors of feudalism.
A so-called religious party had been accusing the MQM of terrorism and betrayal, but the people knew too well the party which had opposed the creation Pakistan and had introduced Kalashnikov culture in educational institutions at Karachi. These elements opposed the leadership of the poor and the middle class as they were on the payroll of the feudals. They were upset by the unity and harmony among the permanent residents of Sindh, he added.
He asked the party MNAs and MPAs to hold open Kachehry in every part of Sindh and listen to the problems of the people and serve them without any discrimination and ensure supply of water in every area. He warned that any member of the assembly who failed to serve the people would be asked by the coordination committee to resign from the assembly so that re-election could be held in the constituency.
