Shahid grabs U-18 crown

KARACHI, Dec. 28: Top seed Shahid Afridi lived to his seeding when he came from behind to clinch the National Junior Hard Court Under-18 tennis crown beating Akber Pataudi in the final at Karachi Gymkhana Saturday.

Promising Shahid displayed consistent base-line play and forceful winners to notch-up 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.

Second seed Akber started well and playing attacking strokes, he snatched the first set 6-4.

Afridi, who took time to settle down, produced his best from the second set. Playing mixed brand of shots, he levelled the score one-set all with 6-4 victory in the second set.

Keeping Patudi, under pressure, Afridi played passing shots to wrap up the final taking the deciding set 6-4.

Shahid Afridi received Rs 7000 as winner and Akber collected Rs 4000.—APP
