Karachi tie hangs in balance

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 28: The Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Group-II fixture between Karachi Whites and Pak PWD was evenly poised after the second day’s play at National Stadium on Saturday.

PWD recovered from 177 for five to reach stumps by extending their total by another 60 runs without further loss with skipper Iqbal Imam (35) and Ahmer Saeed (27) at the crease.

The hosts had earlier added just 19 runs to their Friday’s tally of 283 for eight and were eventually all out for 302.

PWD’s batting heroes were opener Faisal Athar (79 off 133 balls, 16 fours) and Saad Wasim (51 off 99 balls, eight fours). The pair added 113 for the fourth wicket.

Meanwhile, Allied Bank Limited (ABL) edged closer to their second straight victory after taking huge first innings lead of 247 over hosts Bahawalpur at Bahawalpur Stadium.

Bahawalpur ran into more trouble as Arshad Khan, the ABL captain, took three wickets to follow his haul of seven for 25 on Friday. The home team were reeling at 110 for four in its second outing.

Multan, the home team, also were sitting pretty in their tie against  Dadu at Multan Cricket Stadium. The hosts made 324 in reply to Dadu’s first innings tally of 149.
