KARACHI: No no-trust move against dist Nazims till June

KARACHI, Dec 28: The Sindh governor has promulgated the Sindh Local Government (Ninth Amendment) Ordinance 2002 providing for extending the period for moving no-confidence motion against the district Nazims till June 30, 2003.

Earlier, through an ordinance the elected members of different tiers of the local government system were stopped from moving any such motion against the Nazims till December 31, 2002 as the system was at its early stage and no- confidence motion would have made them unstable.

The new ordinance that amends the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001, substitutes its section 181-A with the following:

“Internal Recall of Nazims: 181-A. Notwithstanding anything contained in sections 24, 63 and 85, an internal recall motion shall not be moved in case of Taluka Nazim, Town Nazim or Union Nazim before the 31st December, 2002 and in case of Zila Nazim before the 30th June 2003.”— PPI
