HYDERABAD, Dec 28: A large number of Liaquat Medical University and Liaquat University Hospital employees residing in Jamshoro Colony held a protest demonstration at the university campus on Friday to protest against the disconnection of Sui Gas.
They raised slogans and demanded that the gas supply to the residential colony should be restored.
Meanwhile, the university and hospital administrations have announced that they had already started negotiations with the Sui Southern Gas Company for the restoration of gas supply.
The university registrar, Abdul Latif Soomro, in a statement has warned the employees that if anyone remained absent from duties or indulged in any subversive activity, stern action would be taken against him under the rules.
WORKSHOP: The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, has stressed upon civil society organizations to play their due role for women development in the field of education.
He was delivering his presidential address at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on “Gender and Governance”, organized by the Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare, and Special Education, Government of Pakistan, at a local hotel on Thursday.
He said that basically the development in any area needs proper awareness and education, and added that without education proper awareness could not be expected.
He said that civil society organizations must work for the promotion of education for women in the country.
He expressed hope that the Women Development Ministry would do more for improving the living conditions and creating awareness among the women of the country, especially those residing in the remote areas.
In her address, the federal secretary, Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare, and Special Education, Parveen Qadir Agha, who was the chief guest, said that it was for the first time that a large number of women had been made part of the decision-making process of legislative bodies, and added that it was now upto them to come up to the expectations of the masses.
The director, Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh, Prof Parveen Shah, said that there was a big challenge for women councillors, elected by the masses, especially women, and added that now it was their responsibility to fulfil their obligations to the best of their abilities.
The workshop was attended by women teachers from various colleges and universities of the country, and the women councilors from all over Sindh.
