KARACHI, Dec 16: A bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Musheer Alam, dismissed on Monday the bail plea of an accused involved in firing at police after his attempt to loot a jewellery shop was foiled.
Shoeb, the accused booked by the Napier police under various sections of PPC, sought bail impugning an order passed by an ADJ South who rejected his bail plea on 11-11-2002.
According to the prosecution, police constable Sohail Ahmed, who was on patrolling duty with constable Habibur Rahman, lodged a report against the accused that the latter fired at him when he tried to catch hold of him as he was fleeing after a foiled dacoity attempt on 8-7-2002.
The bench rejected the bail application of the accused.
The same bench granted bail to Ghulam Abbas booked by the Sukkhan police under section 20 of the Enforcement of Hudood Ordinance on a complaint by Mohammed Ali.
The complainant lodged an FIR stating that on 29-1-97 the accused, accompanied by other persons, barged into his house just after Fajr prayers and looted Rs250,000, prize bonds worth Rs1.15 million and jewellery and other valuables.
After hearing the counsel for the accused, the court admitted him to bail against a solvent surety of Rs 200,000.
Another bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Mohammed Sadiq Leghari, dismissed the bail plea of an accused in a murder case.
Shahid Kazmi was booked for killing Sohail Butt. He sought bail from the SHC after the same was rejected by a sessions court.
According to the prosecution, the accused fired twice in the head and chest of the deceased in 1990. He remained an absconder for 12 years. He surrendered before the trial court recently seeking bail. The trial court dismissed his bail plea. The accused moved the SHC seeking bail which was dismissed on Monday.—APP
