Japanese investors assured of cooperation


KARACHI, Dec 14: Industries and Production Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi has assured Japanese businessmen of resolving their problems on priority basis.

He was talking to office-bearers and managing committee members of Pakistan-Japan Business Forum at a lunch hosted by PIDC on Friday.

“I will remove every hurdle in the way of foreign investment in Pakistan as their complaints would be dealt on priority basis. We take immediate decision on your complaints and would not let you wait,” the minister assured Japanese investors.

“We mean business and would not tolerate any negligence and delay in the removal of problems facing investors,” he categorically said.

Mr Jatoi said he would hold individual meetings with Japanese investors to inquire about their problems. “We are here to serve you and attract foreign investment in Pakistan,” he added

Speaking on the occasion, PML(Q) parliamentary leader Chaudhry Shujaat Husain also assured full cooperation to Japanese businessmen and their joint venture partners in Pakistan and said they would face no problem. He said interest of foreign investors, specially Japanese investors, would be looked after at the centre and in the Parliament.

Speaking on the occasion, Japanese investors invited the attention of the minister towards couple of problems facing Japanese joint venture companies.

They urged the minister for the continuation of “free cotton import and export policy to encourage Pakistani textile sector and increase its export.

They also suggested the minister to refrain from frequent changes in tax structure, particularly relating to company income, for increasing foreign direct investment in Pakistan.—APP
