CHENNAI (India), Dec 9: James Willstrop comprehensively crushed English compatriot Peter Barker 9-0, 9-3, 9-1 in final of the Men’s World Junior squash championship here on Monday.

The British junior champion, European Junior champion and now World Junior champion despatched Barker 9-0 9-3 9-1 in just 28 minutes to become the first Englishman to win the title since Simon Parke, also from Yorkshire, in 1990.

In perhaps the swiftest race to the title, Willstrop cruised through six matches at the Tamil Nadu Squash Academy here in just 137 minutes of playing time, without conceding a single game!

Willstrop received the trophy from recently-elected World Squash Federation President Jahangir Khan, the game’s most illustrious player who, despite winning the senior world title six times, never claimed the junior version!

In addition to the WSF trophy and medal, the new champion also received a magnificent solid silver racket.

Earlier Pakistan’s Khayal Muhammad and Majid Khan lost in the semifinals.

Eventual Willstrop knocked out Khayal Muhammad while Barker had the better of Majid Khan.

Pakistan is ranked no.3 in the team championship which rolls off on Wednesday.—Agencies
