KARACHI, Dec 9: Sindh Governor Mohammadmian Soomro has, in principle, approved the setting up of a technical education and vocational training authority in the province.
This was stated by the Provincial Education Secretary, Nazar Hussain Mahar, while talking to APP here on Monday.
He pointed out that a notification in this connection would be issued soon.
The formation of this autonomous authority, which is expected to be set up this month, is aimed at revamping and streamlining the technical education and vocational training institutions in the province.
As many as 50 per cent of the members of the proposed authority would be drawn from the government sector and the remaining 50 per cent from the private sector including the industry.
There are about 177 technical education institutions in Sindh, while 32 institutions are functioning under the LabourDepartment and another 33 under the Social Welfare Department. All these would be merged in the proposed authority.
It was stated that the technical education and vocational training in the province would be tailored in accordance with the market needs.
The trades would be introduced at these institutions in accordance with the market needs and that the obsolete trades would be abolished.—APP
