TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 3: The local police claim to have arrested two members of an inter-district gang of motorcycle lifters and recovered 26 bikes from their possession.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, DPO Muhammad Ashraf said that Shahbaz Sial and Khizer Hayat were experts in disposing of bikes after tampering with the numbers of engine and chassis.
He said police were conducting raids on various hideouts to arrest their four other accomplices who had committed crimes in different districts of the province.
Three other gangs headed by Zahid Gadhi, Shaukat Shoki and Umar Draz Oadh had also been arrested who were also involved in the snatching and stealing of dozens of motorcycles in Toba and other neighbouring districts, he said.
The DPO further claimed that the police had arrested 375 proclaimed offenders during the current year. During this period police also recovered five rockets, one rocket launcher, a hand-grenade, two Kalashnikovs, 64 rifles, 158 guns, 179 revolvers, 313 pistols, 94 carbines, 1,100 gram heroin, 34 kgs hashish and cars worth millions of rupees from them, he added.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed late Monday in a traffic accident on the Gojra-Faisalabad Road near Chaudhry Sugar Mills.
Muhammad Riaz and Bashir Ahmad were going to Faisalabad from Toba Tek Singh when their car collided with a van. They sustained serious injuries and died on the way to a local hospital.
