Concern over encroachments

GUJRANWALA, Dec 1: Residents of Ghakkhar Town have expressed resentment over encroachments on Old Kot Noora Road and in main bazaars.

They said vendors and cartmen had thronged bazaars, while shopkeepers had constructed platforms in front of their shops to display their goods.

Main bazaars’ Markazi Anjuman Tajran president Asif Rashid and other citizens urged the teshil municipal officer and the other officials concerned to remove encroachments.

FOUR KILLED: Four people were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in and around the city on Sunday.

A minor girl, Haleema Bibi, was crossing the road near Rawalpindi Bypass intersection when a truck crushed her under its wheels. She died on the spot.

Tahir was killed while 15 other passengers were injured when a Wahando-bound bus overturned near Eminabad while saving a donkey. The injured were taken to the local civil hospital in critical condition.

Muhammad Ali of Bagrian village, Wazirabad, was hit and killed by a coaster while crossing the road on Sialkot Road.

A shopkeeper, Sultan Ahmad, of Kutcha Fatumand locality was run over by a pick-up. He died while being taken to hospital.

KILLERS HELD: The CIA police claim to have arrested the killer (s) of four people besides a gang of dacoits and recovered illicit arms and looted goods from their possession.

CIA staff DSP Saleem Butt told newsmen on Sunday that Nafasat Ali and Mushtaq had killed the father of Basharat Ali of Ahmadnagar and his two accomplices a few months ago at Verpal Chattha bus stop. Later, they shot dead another villager on suspicion of providing information to police about their activities. They were declared proclaimed offenders by a court of law.

The DSP also claimed having busted a five-member gang of dacoits from Farozewala and recovered looted goods and illicit arms from them.

The Ghakkhar police also arrested a proclaimed offender, Kashif, after a brief encounter.

Meanwhile, the district police claim to have arrested 45 proclaimed offenders besides many gangs of dacoits and recovered a huge quantity of illicit arms and looted goods from them on Sunday.
