Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Nov 29: Students of the Agriculture University have blamed the campus police for taking away over Rs200,000, six computers, clothes and books after breaking locks of about 30 rooms of a hostel on the direction of the provost.

Mohammad Naseer, president of the university Pakhtoon Students Federation unit, told Dawn here on Friday that Provost Saeed Khan Khalil on the pretext of searching for arms in the hostel had asked the police to break locks of the rooms.

But when the police failed in finding any weapon, they had taken away money, including the tuition fees of several students, and other things, he alleged.

“I have confirmed that all these items, and may be the money, are kept in the office of campus police station SHO”, Mohammad Naseer maintained.

PROTEST CANCELLED: In the meanwhile, the students body has cancelled its protest rally.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, activists of the Pakhtoon Students Federation had assembled in front of the NWFP Assembly to start the protest rally in the morning.

But on the assurance of Professor Fazle Raziq Durrani that he would speak to the vice-chancellor of Agriculture Unive-rsity and get restored the students, they cancelled the rally.

The activists also met the head of City Capital Police, DIG Khursheed Alam Khan who pledged to help get returned all the money and other items taken away by the police.
